Festival & Distribution (Workshop)- Sandrine Cassidy



The workshop will cover tips on how to create a good strategy for exposure (Festivals +Distribution) of films, giving examples of niche festivals and other resources. It will give filmmakers a helpful approach to identify their needs moving forward and create an overall strategy for their career and future projects. This workshop is designed to help filmmakers who are starting to think about festivals or who are not getting the exposure they need.


Sandrine Faucher Cassidy is USC School of Cinematic Arts Senior Director of Talent Development, Festivals & Distribution. As such, she counsels and mentors students and alumni on strategy for their shorts and independent features in the festival circuit and how to best utilize their projects to network for their upcoming projects and reach their career goals.

✨Casting Process (Talk)- Marta Gastini, Marina Peluso & Federica Baglioni✨



An open conversation between the three key figures of the casting process. The actress Marta Gastini, the agent Marina Peluso and the casting director Federica Baglioni will meet to discuss the necessary steps for the choice of actors to fill the roles in a particular television program, film, commercial or show.



Marta Gastini enrolled at the Acting For Film Academy in Paris while still attending high school. She made her acting debut in 2009 in the film “Marilyn and I” by Leonardo Pieraccioni. Two years later her international career began, working in films including “The Rite” alongside Anthony Hopkins , and “Dracula 3D” by Dario Argento. She was nominated for the Nastri d'Argento and won national and international awards. Today acts alongside Claudio Bisio in the TV series "It’s Freud's Fault" (Amazon).



Marina Peluso is a talent agent based in Rome, Italy. She graduated from the University of Bologna with a masters in fine arts and literature). Marina then moved to Los Angeles, and she enrolled at UCLA for a major in Entertainment studies. In 2010, she moved back to Italy and she started to work for a big agency in Rome as a junior talent agent. Since 2019 Marina is a senior talent agent at Planet Film, Rome with her own roster of clients young.Her favorite movie? Barry Lyndon.



Federica Baglioni attended the Griffith Cinema and Television Academy graduating in stage direction and she took a degree in Cinema History at Roma Tre University. As Casting Director, she collaborated with Anele, Lux Vide, Fidelio, Groenlandia, Cattleya and Pandemonium. She won the Nastro D’argento as Best Casting Director in 2021 with Francesca Borromeo for “Carosello Carosone”.

The Editor in Cinema: Ability and Responsibility (Workshop)- Matteo Santi



Editors are real life Samurai, calm warriors whose mission is to put their creativity (and clarity of vision) at the Director's service. They are the right hand figure, the confidant, the defeatist, the friend, the technician and the diplomat; whether they are working on a film or a documentary, they have the responsibility of ferrying the director's vision to a safe harbor.



This Workshop will analyze the skills and responsibilities that an Editor must have within a film. It is a panel aimed at aspiring Editors but also for cinema enthusiasts, who want to learn about the different nuances that make up the basis of editing choices in a film.



Matteo Santi, born in Emilia Romagna in 1979, graduated in 2001 at the Academy of Cinema in Bologna. He distinguished himself in 2016, for the editing of "Mine", a film produced by Peter Safran, distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures and in Italy by Eagle Pictures, for which he was nominated for the Silver Ribbons. His name is linked to other projects such as “Rockin1000”, "Ops - the event", "Rwanda" and "Die Mauer ”. In 2020, the thriller “Anja” and “Spore”, starring Valentina Lodovini. Since 2021 he has been a teacher of editing at the Vancini School in Ferrara.

Indie Cinema Today (Talk)- Peter Baxter & Brian Welsh



Peter Baxter, co-founder of Slamdance Film Festival and filmmaker, will host an open conversation on today’s independent cinema with special guest Brian Welsh director of “Beats” (2019). How the industry has changed and how independent filmmakers can still make an impact.



Peter Baxter is a filmmaker, President and co-founder of Slamdance. Since its inception as an alternative to the Sundance Film Festival, Baxter has been responsible for developing Slamdance into a showcase for emerging artists organized by filmmakers for filmmakers. Baxter is known for “Wild in the Streets” (2012), “I Want to Be an American” (2013) and “Spirit Game” (2017).



Brian Welsh (1981, UK) began his career as an editor in documentaries, before attending the National Film and Television School. In 2009 he made his directing debut “Kin”. On graduating he was commissioned by the British film distributor Curzon Artificial Eye to make a micro-­budget feature film which became “In Our Name” (2010). Welsh has directed several TV dramas, winning multiple awards, including an Emmy for his episode for the TV series “Black Mirror”. “Beats” is his second feature.


The conversation will be held in English.

✨From Script to Screen, a Slamdance Story (Workshop)- Peter Baxter✨


The Slamdance Screenplay Competition has a long standing reputation of discovering and nurturing emerging screenwriters, including Tyler Tice whose winning screenplay Day Shift has just completed its Netflix production. Peter Baxter will share insights on introducing new, bold, and raw voices to the entertainment industry and what makes a screenplay stand out.

Inclusivity in Film (Talk)- Francesca Cavallo, Marina Cuollo & Taylor O. Miller


An exchange between professionals to talk about the enhancing and inclusive representation of people by disability, gender and gender identity, sexual and emotional orientation, ethnicity, age and generations in the world of cinema.


Francesca Cavallo is a New York Times bestselling writer, entrepreneur and activist. Author of "Goodnight Stories for Rebel Children", "Elves on the fifth floor", "Doctor Li and the Virus with a Crown in Their Head" and a series of illustrated books on 4 Paralympic champions, Francesca works every day with her publishing house, Undercats, to make children's media more inclusive. Hher books have sold more than 5 million copies and are translated into 50 languages.


Marina Cuollo was born in Naples in 1981. She graduated in biological science and took a PhD in biological processes and biomolecules. Writer, radio speaker, podcasts’ author and content creator, she writes because she can’t live without doing it. Through social networks she deals with prejudices about different abilities. “At Disabilityville we can have sex” is her first book, published by Sperling & Kupfer.


Taylor O. Miller is an award-winning documentarian & published author passionate about storytelling through photography, film & writing. She studied at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee Switzerland. She travels the world for her work, from the islands of Micronesia to the Silver Bank Whale Sanctuary, from India to Detroit. Most recently she was invited to speak at Google to discus “THIS IS DETROIT'', a Docu-Series she has been the Director of Phtography on for 2.5 years.


In english and italian with simultaneous translation.

Genre Films (Talk)- Ludovico Di Martino, Giada Mazzoleni & Elisa Giardini



An open conversation on what has long been considered inferior to cinema d'auteur; Genre cinema has always been universally popular and has seen in recent years a true rebirth, especially in horror. What is Genre Cinema today, how is it evolving and what are the new opportunities that the genre is opening up?


Ludovico di Martino, born in 1992 in Rome, graduated in 2016 in Directing at “CSC”. His first film: “Our Last”, won several awards and participated in independent cinema manifestations all over the world. In 2019 he wrote and directed the third season of “Skam Italia”. In 2020 he directs for Netflix his second film "La Belva", produced by Warner Bros and Groenlandia Film and with Fabrizio Gifuni (nominated for Best Actor at Nastri d'Argento 2021).


Giada Mazzoleni, italian producer and film educator based in Cheltenham, UK, with a strong expertise in low and medium budget production. Founder of Paguro Film, she produced the short film “Moths to Flame” (2018 - Italian Silver Ribbon award) and “Fulci for Fake” (2019) selected at Venice Film Festival and screened at Sitges. In June 2020 her project “IN BETWEEN” was selected for the Biennale Cinema College program. Since 2020 EWA member and part of Women in Film & TV (UK). BFI X BAFTA CREW 2020.


Elisa Giardini, born in Pesaro (Italy) in 1986, graduated in Law at Bologna’s University. She met Davide Montecchi of Meclimone Produzioni Cinematografiche, she produced in 2014 “In a Lonely Place” and in 2018 the documentary “In Difesa delle Sacre Immagini”. In 2020 she produced the short film “La Fellinette”, winner of special prize 75 at Nastri D’Argento 2021.

Fare Comedy (Talk)- Liliana Fiorelli & Niccolò Gentili



“Dying is easy; comedy is hard.” And if you have ever actually tried your hand at comedic acting, you know this to be true. An open conversation with Liliana Fiorelli and Niccolò Gentili sharing their must-know advice for finding the funny.


Liliana Fiorelli, born in 1990 in Rome. She is considered a “cross media artist”. She works in cinema (“I Predatori” by Pietro Castellitto), in television as an actress and author ( Rai 2 – Italian National Television) and on the web as a creative and talent (for Le Coliche). She’s a singer signed by “Rivoluzione Dischi”: in June of 2020 her single “Giorno Zero” came out. She’s also a prolific writer both for theatre and for cinema.


Niccolò Gentili, born in Bagno a Ripoli (Florence) in 1991. In 2016 attended the workshop “Fare cinema” of Marco Bellocchio and shoots his first short film “Volevamo fare u’ cinema”, successfully participating in numerous national and international festivals. With Ignacio Paurici, writes and co-directs in 2017 the short “Paradiso”and in 2018 “Non è una bufala”, winner of numerous awards, the short is selected in the short list for the Silver Ribbon. Since 2019 curates the short films section of Alice nella città, and is the artistic director of Cortinametraggio.
